In 2016 and 2017 Helen was cared for by The Christie hospital, a place that she had previously supported both as a volunteer and by participating in numerous fundraising events. During this period she discovered, and was a regular visitor to, Maggie's.

Maggie’s is a charity which provides free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.
There is a centre very close to The Christie that is a warm and welcoming refuge from the stress of the hospital; visitors can talk to the professional experts on hand about information and advice, or they can sit in conversation with other people who understand what they're going through, or they can simply find a quiet space to reflect.

Helen was a keen runner and continued to train, and race, until days before she died. Her intention was to raise funds for Maggie's by running the London Marathon. Unfortunately the cancer prevented her from making it to the start.
